Obituary of Frederic D. Olin

Please share a memory of Frederic to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frederic (Fred) D. Olin has passed away after 80 wonderful years. Fremont Born in Hornell on March 10th, 1940 son of Frederick and Della (Silsbee) Olin. Fred was a lifelong resident of the Hornell area. After graduating from Alfred-Almond school Fred worked on the family farm with his father for 26 years. After leaving the farm he worked at Morrison Knudsen as a mechanic and later went to work for the Steuben County highway department Cameron bridge crew where he enjoyed his time very much. Fred retired from the County in 2003 but never stopped working. Fred met his wife Donna Howard in the spring of 1961 at a square dance, and they were married in Canisteo December 15th of that year. They have enjoyed dancing through their 58 years of marriage. Fred had many interests from collecting old Allis Chalmers tractors and bulldozers and bringing them back to their original glory, to running a sawmill, or drilling water wells. The thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family whether it was working on one of the kid’s projects, helping with field work on Dale’s farm or enjoying special times together. Fred enjoyed getting together with friends and playing country music. He played fiddle with the Starlite Ramblers for over 50 years. He had many friends that he shared the love of country music, Allis Chalmers tractors, and Chevrolets with, and had remained close with his former classmates. He will be remembered as one of the nicest people you could have ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know, and also for the good times had by all at the many dances he and Donna held at their residence. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Ronnie and William and his daughter Debra Lynn and very close friend and cousin Gates (Johnny) Miller. Fred is survived by his wife Donna, daughters Donnasue Olin of Hornell, Janet Olin of Dansville, son Dale (Vicky) Olin of Hornell, his grandson Wade Olin of Hartsville, granddaughter Jessica (Derek) Kimball of Corning, one brother Gerald (Beverly) Olin of Hornell. He will be sadly missed by his family and his dogs Marcie and Mandi. The family will be present on Wednesday (March 18, 2020) from 4-7pm at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell, where funeral services will take place at 7:00pm with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, in Hornell.
