Karen Jean Amidon Smith Hornell/ Florida Karen Jean Amidon Smith, 63, former resident of East Avenue in Hornell , passed away Sunday (October 11, 2020) at Advent Health in Sebring, Florida, Born in Hornell, January 30, 1957, the daughter of the late Paul J. and Phillis J. Hunt Amidon, she was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, and had attended SUNY at Alfred. Karen had been employed as an office manager for 25 years for the late Dr. Joseph McCormick in Hornell. She was a member of Our Lady of The Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Karen was a member and past president of the Hornell Rotary Club, She was predeceased by her parents; her step-mother; Teresa “Terry” Amidon, her father-in-law and step mother – in-law; Joseph and Marilyn Smith, several aunts and uncles. Surviving are her husband ; Joseph Smith to whom she was married on May 26, 1978, her step-daughter; Kelly Bowls of Newark, NY, her brothers; Ronald (Amelia) Amidon , James (Jayne) Amidon and Gerry Amidon all of Hartsville, her brothers-in-law; George Smith of Dansville and Michael (Ken Hrasdzira) of Savona, two step-grandchildren; Steven and Michael Bowls, several nieces and nephews including her niece Kristen Gostomski of North Hornell who has been a very special help to Karen during her long illness. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday (Oct. 21, 2020) from 4 until 7 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Committal services will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
