Obituary of Maybelle I Hess

Maybelle I. Hess Hornell Maybelle I. Hess, 90, of Riverside Place, formerly of Edgeview Estates, passed away Thursday (Feb. 11, 2021) at St James Hospital. Born in North Hornell, March 1, 1930, the daughter of Leo and Verna Burd Cox, she had resided her entire life in Hornell. She had been employed as a Certified Sales Clerk at the former J.C. Penney store in Hornell for 30 years. Maybelle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hornell and a volunteer for “Faith In Action” She was predeceased by her parents, her husband; Carl Hess in 2015, her sisters; Betty Rothra, Carolyn Scholes, and Doris Blanchard, as well as her brothers; Ferris and Leo Cox. She is survived by her daughters; Cathleen Banoub of Wisconsin and Karen (Stephen) Brown of Hornell, her son; Joseph (Mary) Hess of Hornell, her 10 grandchildren; Michelle (Chuck) Mosher, Joseph (Robin) Hess, Jennifer (Trevor) Sears, Brian Hess, Andrew (Holli) Hess, James (Maria) McKay, Joseph (Melissa) McKay, Christopher Hollowell, Daniel (Zein) Brown, Kristen (Tracy) Davis and her 18 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Brown, Director at Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home of Hornell. Due to the Covid restrictions, the family observed a private funeral service at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Dudley Jenkins. Burial followed in Rural Cemetery in Hornell. Family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life, honoring Maybelle at a time and place to be announced in the Spring.
