Doris E. Snowden, 97 formerly of The Oakes, passed away Monday (March 1, 2021) at Elderwood At Hornell.
Born in Hornell, January 24, 1924, she was the first of 13 children born to Avery and Bessie Marlatt Nichols and had resided nearly all her life in Hornell. She was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1941, and was a stay at home Mom for about 15 years before being employed as a secretary at the Alfred University College of Ceramics for over 30 years.
Doris was a member of the Hornell United Methodist Church and served as the church secretary for over 30 years.
She was predeceased by her husband; Robert W. Snowden in 2010 to whom she was married on January 2, 1943, two daughters; Mary Snowden in 1955 and Betty Withey in 2008, all of her siblings; Arlene Masters, Margaret Vanderwahl, Alberta Soucy, Edith Snyder, Ray, Ernest, Jack, Jimmy, William, Jerry and Robert Nichols and 3 grandsons and 1 infant granddaughter.
Doris is survived by her daughter; Kathleen (Charles) Bill of Arkport, her sons; John (Carol) Snowden of Parksburg, Pennsylvania, William (Diane) Snowden of Washington State, Michael (Susan) Snowden of Hornell, and Richard Snowden of Delaware, 37 Grandchildren, numerous Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (March 5, 2021) from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at the Hornell United Methodist Church, Webbs Crossing Road in Hornell with Rev. Lenny Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Hornell.
