Jean C. Young, 87 , former resident of Edgeview Estates, passed away Thursday (March 11, 2021) at Elderwood At Hornell.
Born in Hornell, Dec. 16, 1933, the daughter of Richard and Wyona Sears Howard, she was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1952. She served her country as a member of the United States Air Force. She married Jacques S. Young in Hornell, later moving to Chicago, Illinois, where she resided for several years. Following Jacques death in 1991, she returned to Hornell and was employed as a Temp Secretary wherever she was needed and then for several years as a secretary for the Bethesda Foundation.
Jean was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Hornell and a member of the former Ivanhoe Chapter # 160, Order of Eastern Star. Jean was always ready to help any Senior Citizen in the area who needed rides for appointments. She was always available day or night to help anyone. She was active in the Hornell Alumni Association, especially the Class of 1952.
Jean enjoyed working with computers, reading Sci-Fi books, and especially her cats.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jacques Young, her sister; Joan Howard and her brother; Stephen Howard.
Surviving are her sister; Gerri (Leonard) Vanskiver of Hornell, her step-son; Jacques Young Jr. of Lebanon, Illinois, step grand daughter; Megan Young of Florida, nieces and nephews; Karen (Denny) Yoder of Almond, Laurie (Jim) Buzzard of Cuba, Susan (Bob) Bleeks of Hume, Cansandra Achtziger of Buffalo, Darlene (Mark) Edelman of California, Vickie Hunt of Bradford, PA, Jeff (Cyndi) Vanskiver of Washington State, Keith Vanskiver of Naples, NY, Richard Hunt of Hornell, Kenny (Rhonda) Howard of Kernersville, North Carolina, and George Young of Winters Garden, Florida.

Honoring Jean’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.
