Obituary of Guy Duane James Gross

Guy Duane James Gross Hornell Guy D. Gross, 67 of Taylor Street passed away late Saturday evening at St. James Hospital. Born on October 3, 1953 the son of Duane and Dolores Warren Gross he had resided in Dansville prior to moving to Hornell in 1983. Later in life after receiving his GED, he attended SUNY Alfred, Wellsville Campus, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Technology. Guy was an excellent musician, often displaying his musical talent as a lead guitarist and vocalist with the band ‘Pegasus’. He also loved to ride motorcycles and enjoyed coaching slow pitch softball. He was a self- employed electrician and carpenter. Guy honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was predeceased by both parents as well as his sister; Catherine Gross and daughter; Angela Gross. Surviving are his wife, Paula McElwain Gross of Hornell, sons; Aaron (Kristin) Gross of Farmington, NY, Christopher (Meghan Payne) Gross of Hornell, Thomas (Carrie Hanchett) Gross of Hornell, Ernest Gross of Hornell, Carl (Alicia) Sackett of Geneseo, Mathew Brooks, Jason Gross and Donnie Gross, one step brother; Edward (Tina Cartwright) Dale of Wayland, two step sisters; Catherine Dale and Bertha (Tim Hess) Dale of Mt. Morris, ten grandchildren; Cassandra Gross, George and D.J. Bailey, Trevor Payne, Nathaniel and Charlotte Gross, Riley McElwain, Brieanna, Arianna and Julieanna Hanchett. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday,( March 26, 2021) from 2-4 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell where a funeral service will follow calling hours at 4 PM. Mitch Weaver will officiate.
