Elizabeth Rachael Schwartz Hornell ELizabeth (Betty) Rachael Schwartz, 94, of Hornell went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2021 at her home. Betty was born in Ransomville, NY on November 23, 1926, to the daughter of Ruth (Pettit) Hicks and Harold Hicks. She attended school at the old Almond School, and then Alfred Almond School where she graduated in 1945. While in high school she met her high school sweetheart, Francis Donald Schwartz and they were married on August 4, 1948. Betty was employed at Chair Factory in Almond, Sears in Hornell, Alfred University, Alfred State College, and Alfred Almond Central School. Betty was predeceased by her son, William, her two sisters, Ruth Scott, Virginia Gavin, and grandsons, Kevin Shinebarger and Brian Shinebarger. Living are her husband of 72 years, Francis, her sons Donald (Deanne) Schwartz of Colorado, James (Patricia) Schwartz of Hornell, her grandchildren Daniel (Lisa) Schwartz of Hornell, Aaron (Kari) Schwartz of Arkport, Corey (Aaron) Clark of Rochester, Dr. Steven (Erin) Shinebarger of Hornell, DJ (Brittany) Schwartz of Colorado and Jordan Schwartz of Colorado, her great grandchildren, Hailey Schwartz of Canisteo, Maddux Schwartz of Canisteo, Brandon Clark of Rochester, Dylan Clark of Rocherster, Talan Schwartz of Arkport, Presley Schwartz of Arkport, Kevin Shinebarger of Almond, Carson Shinebarger of Hornell, Preston Shinebarger of Hornell and Victoria Ann Schwartz of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Betty and her family attended Almond Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir director and youth leader. After the Methodist church closed, she and her family attended Hillside Baptist Church where she is still a member. At Hillside Betty served as a Sunday school teacher and a youth choir director. Through the years she led many Bible studies well into her 90's. Desires of her heart were the Lord, her family, her poetry, and attending and watching sporting events, especially when her family members were playing, or involved. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday, June 29 from 4-7 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 30 at 6PM at the Hillside Baptist Church of Hornell with Reverend Craig Brittingham officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond.
