Obituary of Audrey Connell

Audrey Connell was born in Arcade on October 26, 1918. She graduated from Arcade Central School in 1936 and received her teaching degree from Geneseo College in 1939. Audrey taught special education, advanced reading, and fourth grade for many years at Alfred-Almond Central School. She is fondly remembered by her former students. Audrey married Robert “Bob” Torrey in 1946, who passed away in 1969, then to George “Red” Connell who passed away in 1995. She was predeceased by parents Arthur and Veva Norton, sisters Shirley Printzlau, Beverly Saunders, and Patricia Skinner, and brother Roy Norton. Audrey has two sons Robert and Richard Torrey, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Audrey was a long-time member of Eastern Star. She was also deeply invested in the Almond Community Church and was known as a “good Christian woman” among those who worship there. In a 2012 feature, in the Alfred Sun, Audrey was remembered as an advocate for meeting younger parishioners’ half-way, and credited the church for being “a wonderful place to worship.” An avid camper, she enjoyed her retirement wintering in Florida for a span of about 18 years. The family plans a private graveside funeral. Please join us to celebrate her life at the Almond Community Church on Saturday, July 3rd at 12 Noon. A reception to be held after the service.
