Carol Ann Abernathy, 79, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 1, 2021) in Syracuse.
Carol was born on December 25, 1941 in the Bronx, the daughter of John and Mary Demario Hassis. She had resided in Westbury, New York where she met and married the love of her life on June 1, 1963, moved to Maryland until returning to Wallkill, New York ,traveled in their retirement to Arizona before residing in Hornell.
While in Hornell, she was a member of Our Lady Of The Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.
She was predeceased by her husband; Joseph Abernathy in 2007, her parents (1994, 1998) her son Kevin in 2007, her brother; Ronald Hassis in 2009, and her granddaughter; Elizabeth Lynch in 2002.
Surviving are her daughter; Deborah (Michael) Collier of Syracuse, her son John (Patricia) Abernathy of Pinebush, New York, her sisters; Joann (James) Gimenez of Florida, Patricia (Santos) Abrilz of Patchogue, New York, and Deborah (Husband Richard deceased in 2015) Howell of Valley Stream, New York, brothers; William (Barbara) Hassis of Whitesboro, New York, Thomas (Florence) Hassis of Holbrook, New York, 9 Grandchildren; Alisha Lynch, Daniel Lynch, Shannon Lynch, Michael Collier, Shane Anthony, Prince Collier, Mikayla Collier, Anita Collier, and Raymond Eastwood Sr. 6 Great Grandchildren; Raymond Eastwood Jr; Gabby Collier, Leah Collier, Landon Collier, Mya Anthony and Brooklyn Collier, many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present on Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2021) from 11 AM until 1 PM to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell where funeral services will follow calling hours at 1 PM, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery in Hornell.
