Alan Joe HerrNeckar Hornell Alan Joe HerrNeckar, “Mr. Neckar” 82, of the Airport Road, passed away peacefully Sunday (September 19, 2021) at his home. Born in Hornell, May 30, 1939, the son of Donald E. HerrNeckar and Verlie C. (Sherwood) Davies, he has resided his entire life in the Hornellsville area. Joe was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1956, and enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17 following graduation. He served honorably in Hawaii, Alaska, and Okinawa. His service brought him to the belief that everyone should get out and see more of the world. Joe enjoyed many things in life, some of which were riding motorcycles, wood working, arts, playing cards and being a part of the community. He enjoyed learning public speaking in Toastmaster, helping out in the Arkport Exchange club. Joe was a member of the Hornel Bible Church where he volunteered as the secretary, treasurer, usher and provided maintenance. He held many jobs in his life such as Real Estate, District 6 Federal Credit Union, Civil Engineer for the DOT and owner of the Moonlighters Construction Company. Helping to fix the community through the DOT and the Moonlighters was a large part of his life. It was hard for him to pass an intersection or a roof without inspecting it. When the Moonlighters would pour concrete they would always mark it with a Man in the Moon stamp which can still be found in parts of town today. Over the years Joe and Fay have had many family members that put in time, love and effort to keep Joe going and as comfortable and entertained as possible. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Elene Burrit for her years of care that ensured we had as much time as we could. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters; Jan Taber and Barbara Setaro, his brothers; Philip David HerrNeckar and Earl Armond HerrNeckar, his step son; David Remchuk and his brother-in-law; John Yedinack. Joe is survived by his wife; Fay Burnes HerrNeckar who he first met when she was 5 years old, but never married until she was 60 years old. He always said he needed to wait until she was of age. Also surviving are his daughters; Teresa (Elaine Apthorp) HerrNeckar of Boston, Mass. Kristina (James) Cutter of Rochester, Kasi (Casey) Brown of Lockport, and Samantha (Alexander) Olson of Hornell, his step-son; Norman (Deborah) Remchuk of Virginia, his sisters; Donna Hagar of New Jersey, Sandra (Roger) Jimerson of Arkport and Lois (Merritt) Mizelle of Virginia, his brother; Merrit (Priscilla) Herr-Neckar of Pennsylvania, his grandchildren; Ryan, Michael, Elizabeth, William, Allyson, Benjamin, Scott, Gideon, Iella, Wesley and Durin Joe spent his last day on earth doing the things he loved; spending time with his grandson making a monster truck cake, watched the Buffalo Bills game, and shared pizza with his family before passing away at 4:40 PM.
