Obituary of Gloria Marie Sheffer

Angelica, NY – Gloria Marie Sheffer, age 91, died at home surrounded by the loving comfort of her family on Saturday (December 4th, 2021).
At Marie’s request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2022 at the convenience of the family.

Marie was born in Buffalo, NY on April 25, 1930, a daughter of the late Martin and Martha Harber. She loved to travel and in her early 20’s went to Florida where she worked several jobs including as an Elementary School teacher, and Nanny. In 1955 she married the late Bernard W. Sheffer, Sr. and moved to Lancaster, NY where they lived for 61 years and raised their family.
Marie was a devout Catholic and participated in St. Gabrielle’s Parish as a member of the Ladies Guild and enjoyed many friendships and activities at the Lancaster Senior Center, Lancaster, NY.
Marie loved her family and enjoyed those times they spent together as a family in Allegany State Park. She was a wonderful cook and is remembered fondly for her Christmas kuchens. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her late husband Bernard as well as numerous trips to the Islands with her daughter, Carole.
She is survived by her daughters and son, Susan (Bill) Srmack of Geneva, Carole Sheffer-Valair of No. Hanover, MA, Bernard W. Sheffer, Jr. (Lynn) of Angelica, NY, Anne Attebery (Allen) of Springville, NY and Mary Jo Sheffer of West Seneca, NY; her grandchildren Blaine Sheffer (Nicole), Callee Salvaggio (James) of Staten Island, Kate (Nelson) Misso of Holland, and Jake (Chelsea) Breidenstein of Franklinville, NY, Jennifer (Jonathan) Srmack of Phelps, Melissa Mandurano of Clifton Springs, and a great grandchildren, McCoy Sheffer, Chelsea Lippert of Alden, NY, Aiden, Abigail and Isabella Salvaggio of Staten Island, and Lily Mandurano of Clifton Springs, NY.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard in 2008; 3 yr. old son Paul Sheffer in 1969 and by brothers Warren and Martin Harber.
