Myrtle J. O’Dell Bath/Canisteo Myrtle J. O’Dell, 79, resident of Snyder Road, Bath, NY passed away Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Born in Rexville, NY, April 4, 1942, she was the daughter of Gerald and Elizabeth McMurtry Mills. She had attended Greenwood Central School and had made her home in Canisteo, Hornell and Bath. Mert had been employed for several years as a CNA at the Steuben County Health Care Facility. Mert was well known at all the local quilting and craft shops. She loved to quilt, crochet, knit, and make all kinds of crafts. She had a very loving and giving heart. She also loved to collect Cacti, Succulents and all kinds of plants. She also had a yard full of flowers in the summer. Mert was a kind and compassionate person who never met a stranger she didn’t like. She loved her family whether you were born into it, married into it, or were just friends. Mert cared for all. She ran a Family Care Home for several years in Hornell. She wasn’t happy if she wasn’t helping or caring for someone. She loved God with all her heart and was Saved, Sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. Mert loved to watch the birds and squirrels at her bird feeders as well as the Black Bear that paid her a visit. She was predeceased by her parents; 3 sisters; Ruth Jean Mills, Cora Thompson and Nettie Croom, 5 brothers; Gerald, Carlysle, Charles, Robert and Alvin Mills, as well as 2 grandsons; Shane and Eric Welch and her son in law, Jeffrey Woodworth. Surviving are her husband; Robert O’Dell of Bath, 4 daughters; Sheri Welch Nisbet of North Carolina, Kim Woodworth of Bath, Laura (David) Kenyon of Big Flats, and Shannon (Larry) Murray of Hornell, 2 sons; David (Traci) Welch of Bradford, NY and Destry (David) Welch of Rochester, one sister; Allie Mae (John) Grimaldi of Savona, 14 Grandchildren; Rikki Lin Nisbet, Patrick Nisbet, Kari Luellman, Brian Luellman, Mark Woodworth, Alyson Woodworth, Morgan Booth, Casey (Dan) Renno, Samantha Welch, Devin Welch, John (Nicole) Casterline, Rachel (Walter) Blank, Emily Kenyon and Dylan Kenyon, 12 great grandchildren; Paige, Nathan, Cyra, Maya, Kellen, Olivia, Avory, Owen, Lincoln, Kennedy, Abigail, and Connor. Her extended family; Jammie, Matt, James Michael and Andrew Clark, Joshua, Randee, Reese, and Alexander Welch, Jessica, Joseph, Noah, Brennan, Brayden, Ameilia and Gabriella Clark, Karen Stryker and so many others. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (Jan. 21, 2022) from 1 PM until 2 PM at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, 25 Greenwood Street Canisteo, NY 14823, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, with Pastor Shannon Brumfield officiating.
