Steven J. Weed, 72 of Third Street, passed away unexpectedly Friday (Sept. 30, 2022) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Olean, NY April 30, 1950, he was the son of Clark and Alice Brutsman Weed. Steve had resided all his life in Canisteo. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and had been employed as a firefighter for the City of Hornell for 32 years prior to his retirement in 2008.
Steve was active in the affairs of his community and had served as Supervisor for the Town of Canisteo for several years. He was a member and past president of the Canisteo Central School District Board. He was active on the fund raising committee for the Boy Scouts of America, and coached youth football for 15 years. He was a member and past master of the Morning Star Lodge #65 F& AM of Canisteo and had served as the District Deputy Grand Master. He had received the Dedicated Service Award. He was the manager of the Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo for 26 years and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Rexville.
He was predeceased by his parents and his mother and father in law, Joe and Doris Ordway of Canisteo.
Surviving are his wife, Sally Ordway Weed of Canisteo, his daughter, Amy (William) Quinley of Kansas, his son, James (Brandi) Weed of Binghamton, his sister, Yolanda (Wally Wade) Mullen of Canisteo and his brother, Daniel (Richelle) Weed of North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, Ashton Weed, Nolan Weed, Keaton Weed, Will Quinley and Evan Quinley, several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2022) from 1 until 3 pm and 6 until 8 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Rexville. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3pm, and a Fireman’s Memorial Service will be held at 8 PM Wednesday following calling hours at the funeral home.
