Kenneth Smith, 65, of Cunningham Creek Road passed away Monday (October 10, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

 

Ken was born in Hornell on March 29, 1957 the son of John and Carolyn (Nichols) Smith and has resided his entire life in the area.

 

He was employed as an electrician for the past 36 years for Alstom Transportation Inc. in Hornell.

 

Ken was an animal lover and “people person”, sparking up a conversation with everyone he met. He loved the outdoors and fishing, which brought a great peacefulness to his life. He was also involved in many aspects of Stock Car racing including; driver and mechanic and acted as Crew Chief for his boys (as well as anyone who would let him) at all the area tracks. He will be remembered for his constant tinkering around the garage but most of all for his love and time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

 

He was predeceased by his Mother, his Grandson; Zachariah, a Sister; Anna Valentine, and his daughter; Jolene Smith Palmer.

 

On November 6, 1976, Ken married his high school sweetheart, Paula (Ordiway) Smith of Canisteo, who survives. Also surviving are his Father; John (Jenny) Smith of Hornell, three sons; Shane (Casey) Smith of Arkport, Randy (Andrea) Smith of Hornell, and Michael (Valerie) Smith of North Hornell, his Son-In-Law; Alan Palmer of Canisteo, four brothers; John Smith of Canisteo, Elmer (Kathleen) Smith of Hornell, Billy (Pat) Donovan of FLA., Donald (Kim) Smith of Canisteo, one Half Brother; Robert Smith, three Sisters; Christine Smith of Hornell, Delores Smith of Arkport, and Terry (Rick) Woodworth of Texas, nine Grandchildren; Kayla Slaght of Canisteo, Hunter Smith of Arkport, Haylee Smith of Hornell, Seth and Keyana Palmer of Canisteo, Alexis, Payton, Emily, and Jameson Smith of North Hornell, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Ken’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Those wishing to remember Ken are asked to consider a memorial contribution to The Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.
