Lois Olix of Hornell NY passed away on 10/22/22 after a brief illness. Lois was born in Wellsville NY on March 1 1953. She is predeceased by her parents Anna Ribble ( Guild ) and Carlyle Mills as well as her brother Carl “Junior” Mills and her greatest friend Janet “Squeak” Charles.
Lois is survived by her husband Steven T. Olix, Children and grandchildren that she loved more than anything, Jennifer Olix (Marc Steele), Holly (David) Potter, Stacy Olix, Steven (Nichole) Olix, Colin (Angie) Flaitz, Andrew Flaitz, Riley Flaitz, Brianna Bebee, Samuel Olix, Kaitlyn Teeter, Steven Potter, and Jonathan Potter, her 2 sisters Catherine (Sy) Thomas of NC and Sue Diaber of OH. Lois will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Lois was a graduate of Canisteo High School where shortly after graduation she met and married Steven Olix on June 23 1973. Lois will also always be remembered as being a caretaker of not only her patients, but of the many co-workers she often extended a helping hand to. She was a graduate of St. James School of Nursing in 1994 after which time she briefly worked on the medical-surgical unit before moving into Long term Care where she really found her calling. She worked as a supervisor, manager and as the Director of Adult Day Care Services before leaving St. James and working at other facilities. She continued her passion for the elderly and especially the dementia patients, working in Rochester, Corning, and Bath as a supervisor, Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing. She loved working with her daughters at different times throughout her career. She also taught as an Adjunct Clinical Nursing l instructor at Alfred State College She loved her students and they would often reach out to her years later for advice. She will be remembered for her willingness to give and her way of bringing everyone around her up with her unwavering faith in them.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (October 25, 2022) from 4-6pm at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell. A Funeral Service will follow at 6:00pm with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be a Rural Cemetery.
