Jane Aseneth Wood, Hartsville
Jane A. Wood passed away on Monday (Oct. 31, 2022) at the age of 92. She was born in Hornell, January 21, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Galusha Conner. She spent her early life in Thatcherville, until she married Clyde “Bud” Wood on June 5th, 1948, at which time they resided in Hartsville the rest of their lives. Jane attended school at Alfred Almond Central through her junior year, then her senior year in Hornell High School. She worked at several places in the area during her lifetime. She was a teller at the former Canisteo Savings & Loan. She also worked in the Canisteo Central School cafeteria, and the former Crandall’s Jewelry Store. And later years she was a licensed real estate broker with her husband. They owned and operated Wood’s Realty. She had also served as Hartsville Town Clerk for several years. Jane attended the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Charles and Richard Conner; her sister, Nancy Woolever, and most recently—just two days after her passing--her sister, Linda Conner of California, passed away on Nov. 2, 2022. Surviving are her son, Marvin (Betty) Wood of Wellsville, her daughter, Debra (Stephen) Zeltwanger of Hartsville, her grandchildren, Kelly Jones and Kari (Rich) Buch, great-grandchildren, Abigail Jones, Allyson Buch and Jonathan Buch, her sister-in-law, Jacque Conner of Hornell, and brother-in-law, Gerald Woolever of Hornell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She will be fondly remembered as the “Cookie Lady.” Family and friends will miss her famous molasses and Christmas cookies, maple cookies, ice cream rolls, cream puffs, chocolate cake and tea rings. Family will always remember her joy in preparing—and their joy in receiving--their own special dessert for their birthdays and Christmas.
