Duane Jones, 75, of Purdy Creek Road, passed away Friday (Nov. 4, 2022) at St. James Hospital.
Born on July 8, 1947 in Hornell, he was the son of Victor and Lavina (VanSkiver) Jones. He had resided in Florida for several years before coming to the Canisteo Valley in the early 1980’s.
He graduated high school in Buffalo and later attended Corning Community College where he studied Mechanical Drafting.
Duane served his country as a member of the United States Navy (Serving from 1966-1968) and was employed by Alstom Inc. of Hornell as a Rail Car Inspector as well as a Quality Control Inspector for LTK Consulting Firm.
He was a past member of The Canisteo American Legion Post #846. He enjoyed fishing on Keuka Lake, spending time with his dogs and watching the Buffalo Bills. Shortly after coming to the area he volunteered as a Women’s Softball Coach where he met the love of his life, Ann Clark.
Duane was predeceased by his Father and a sister; Donna McBurney
Survivors include: his Mother; Lavina Jones of Wellsville, longtime companion; Ann Clark of Canisteo and her Son; Todd (Sue) Scott of Canisteo, one Daughter; Danielle Schiddel of FLA, a Brother; John (Linda) Jones of Buffalo, his Aunt; Joann VanSkiver, his Uncle; Jim VanSkiver, two Grandchildren and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday (November 12, 2022) from 1-3 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street Canisteo where a Memorial Service will take place immediately following visitation. The Reverend Shannon Brumfield will officiate.
