Roy F. Patterson age 85 of Carl’s Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday (November 5, 2022) at UR St James Hospital.

 

He was born in Friendship, NY on March 15, 1937 the son of Ward Patterson and Evelyn Vincent Patterson. A portion of his life he lived with his uncle and aunt Milton and Elnora Jennings and graduated from Belfast Central School. Roy had worked for the Evening Tribune early on in his career and later retiring from Foster-Wheeler in Dansville. He also helped remodel several area churches and was a Sunday School Superintendent. Roy was a hard worker and sometimes worked several jobs. Roy also had worked for area farmers: Oscar Kent and Andy Spencer.

 

Roy loved to fish and hunt and had participated in float stocking trout in the Cohocton River. He enjoyed farming, horseback riding, square dancing, singing in choirs, bluegrass and country music, watching sports, westerns and “Dr. Pol”, going for long car rides, euchre, card games, watching wildlife in his yard, visiting with family and friends, playing ball, picking berries, helping with canning, and liked giving advice to his best friend John Nesbit.

 

He was predeceased by his parents Ward and Evelyn, aunt and uncle Milton and Elnora Jennings, his 2 wives Claudine Jones Patterson in 1960, and Elaine Stocum Patterson in 2007, and his brothers Loren, Stanley, Forest, and John Patterson.

 

He is survived by his children Cheryl Austin of Canisteo, Teresa (Rev. Dudley) Jenkins of Hornell, Rita (Jeff) O’Dell of Canisteo, Steven (Gaylee) Patterson of Dansville, Kevin (Ronda) Patterson of Canaseraga, and Lori (Robert) Murray of Florida, his brother Alvin (Vicky) Patterson of Maryland, his sister Jean Gleason of Houghton, 16 grandchildren, 19 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will be present on Thursday (November 10, 2022) from 12-2pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place at 2:00pm with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
