Karl D Smith Sr. 92 yrs old of Crosby Creek Road passed away on November 8, 2022 surrounded by the ones that loved him most.

 

Born in Canisteo N.Y on Dec. 27,1929 to Nicholas and Tressie (Nye) Smith. He resided all his life in the Canisteo/Hornell area. He started working at the Hornell Woodworking Company then went into the Erie Railroad system from 1951-1954. When that job had ended he worked in Bath NY at Westinghouse until 1960. He entered his final and most loved job in construction until his retirement in 1990. Karl married the love of his life Barbara Jordan in 1946. They welcomed six children. Upon retirement Karl and Barbara enjoyed traveling the world. Their most memorable trips included Australia and Ireland.

 

They had 62 yrs of marriage before Barbara passed in 2008. Karl is proceeded in death by two sons, Karl D. Smith and Senior Master Seargent MIcheal D. Smith. Also, one sister, Teresa McIntosh. Surviving Karl are two sons. Keith (Carol) of Hornell and David (Anne) of North Carolina. Two daughters, Wendy (Steve) Matacale of Hartsville and Marcia (Belinda) Smith of Elkland Pa. Three sisters, Virgina (James) Jackson of Arkport, Marion Scheithauer of Virginia and Jean House of Rochester NY. A long with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Lastly his beloved dog, Jack. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

 

Funeral arrangements are with the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home of Hornell.
