Mary Ruth Bell, 83 of Hakes Ave. passed away peacefully on Monday (Nov. 14, 2022) at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Hornell, March 24, 1939, the daughter of William and Amy Blowers Bartle she had resided her entire life here. She had been employed as a receptionist at the former Hornell Evening Tribune and was a member of the Living Waters Church in Hornell.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, George Hawkes, who she divorced but remained good friends with, Robert “Bob” Alexander, Ollie “Lewis” Bell, her son, Dale Hawkes Sr. her daughter Karen Hawkes, her brothers, Earl, Billy, Edwin Bartle and Robert Mattison, her sisters, Dorothy Thompson, and Virginia Johnson, and her nephew, Philip J. Casterline.
Mary’s love for all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren was unconditional, as well as anyone who got to meet her. She always saw the best in anyone no matter what the circumstances, and would give love, an ear, or just support and a hug. All that knew Mary, knew her heart.
Surviving are her daughters, Darlene (Geoffrey) Hall of Hornell, Doreen (Chuck) Prutsman of Hornell, Melinda (Mike) Alexander-Hewitt of Georgia, Heather “Niki” (Scott) Baker of Hornell, Kimberly Ford of New Jersey, and Lynn Prisavage of South Carolina, her sons, Robert (Billie “BJ”) Alexander of Indiana, Aarron (Theresa) Alexander of Tennessee, Grandchildren, Dale (Lynn) Hawkes, Tonya (Bob) LaShure, William (Lucretia) Hawkes, Pauline (Dave) Comer, Michael (Heidi) Button, Nicole (Scott) Werndle, Jamie (Ed) Miles, Misty (William) Carrier, Brittany (Shawn) Talbett, Michael Scott, Adam Alexander Cassidy, Ciara Leach, Ireland Alexander Cassidy, Hunter Alexander Cassidy, Asia Alexander Cassidy, Lyric Alexander Cassidy, Arya Alexander Hewitt, Cody Kinnard, Tristan Alexander, Noah Alexander, Brothers-in-law, Leo and Robert Bell, and sister-in-law, Brenda Bell, 44 great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday (Nov. 19, 2022) from 11 AM until 12 PM at the Living Waters Church in Hornell where funeral services will follow calling hours at Noon. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
