Marcella was born in Cortland, N.Y., on January 10, 1935, to Walter and Mabel (Miller) Slocum. They lived in Cortland for several years before moving to Hornell and then to Arkport, where she resided for her entire adult life.

Marcella was an avid collector of bells and stuffed bears. She loved doing puzzles, crocheting, yard saling, and visiting her neighbors on her scooter.
