James W. Phillips, 87, passed away unexpectedly at St. James Hospital on Saturday (Dec. 24, 2022).
Born in Hornell, May 11, 1935 he was the son of George and Bernadine Green Phillips. He was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1954 and had been employed for a time by the former Erie Railroad in Hornell. He later became employed at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester. for several years prior to his retirement. Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1955-1957. He and his wife Nancy, attended the Bennett’s Creek Bible Church and Jim was a well known Train enthusiast. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Carolyn as well as 5 of his siblings.Surviving are his wife, Nancy Burnes Phillips of Hornell, his daughter, Sara (Derek) Hartzell of Washington State, his son Gregory (Susan) Phillips of Tennessee, step-sons, Donald (Ronnie) Plank and Gary (Crissy) Plank of Almond, step daughter- Terri Hartzell of Washington State, his sisters, Susan Anderson of Hornell and Margie (Kirby) Noye of Rochester, his brother, George Phillips of Binghamton, 1 grandson, Ethan Hartzell, nieces and nephews. Brown, Director.Family and friends are invited to visit the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell on Friday (Dec. 30, 2022) from 1 PM until 3 PM when a funeral service will be held. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester.
