Dorothy Marie (Prior) Hartwell 1926-2023
Arkport
Dorothy, peacefully left this world February 20, 2023.
Predeceased by her husband Howard (Bucky) Hartwell, mother Mary Frances Prior, sisters Ruth Dinkins, Helen Turner and Betty Westfall. Survived by brother, George Prior, sisters Lois York and Alice Spitulnik, caretaker, niece Mary Marvin, several other nieces and nephews.
Born and raised on a farm, the eldest of 7 children, in her teenage years it was necessary for Dot to leave school and secure a job, helping to support the family. She was determined to get a high school diploma, and did so years later.
A colorful twosome, most weekends Dot and husband Bucky sought out the local flea markets and auctions, sometimes venturing as far as New England. After several years of buying and selling, they began to collect and sell specific items, Dot, curios and Bucky, purchased and repaired clocks and watches. From the enclosed front porch home on route 36, Dot set up a Curio Shoppe which could get quite busy. In later years, they semi-retired. The home on Route 36 was sold and the Hartwell’s moved to the Arkport Trailer Park. Most of the collectibles went to auction.
In recent years, Dot lost her eyesight and it was necessary to have help. Niece, Mary Marvin looked after her. In 2020 Dot became a resident of Hornell Gardens Nursing Home.
