Ronald J. McDaniel, 73 of Purdy Creek Road, passed away Wednesday (April 19, 2023) at his home after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
He was born on June 15, 1949 and was one of the sons of Roy and Gertrude (Griffin) McDaniel. He was a lifelong resident of Canisteo and lifelong Bengals and Yankees fan. You could often hear him discussing their stats, good or bad, with his friends and family. Ron went daily to the OTB and quite often made friends and family pick a horse to play.
Ron enjoyed trips to Sam’s Club and hillside drives to visit his home and many farms he worked on as a young man over the years. For 34 years Ron worked at the Hornell Wegmans Food Market starting at the original location as a stock boy and ending his career as the head receiver at the current location in Plaza 21 in Hornell. For 28 years he also worked with Shake Away, starting at the original location in Haskinville and ending at the newest location on Fourth Street in Canisteo, as the warehouse manager. He was also employed at the 7-11 Store on Canisteo Street in Hornell.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Larry McDaniel, Danny McDaniel and Tommy Eason. Also his beloved dogs, Clyde Daniel and Daisy.
Surviving are his wife Terry (Torrence) McDaniel to whom he was married 31 years. His sons, Steven (Tracy) McDaniel of Corning, Jason Winant of Hornell and Christopher (Nicky) Winant of Everett, Washington, his daughters, Kim Lockwood of Jacksonville, Florida, and Sandra McMullen of Williamsfield, Ohio, his grandchildren, Zachary and Jordan Peters, Sydney Lockwood, Kenny, Kaci and Kolbie McMullen, Alyssa and Anthony Winant, Camden and Macee Kate Winant, Gizelle and Gabby Champagne, Morgan and Braiden McDaniel as well as 4 great grandchildren. His brothers, Wayne & Mary (Guetz) McDaniel, Tom and Kathy McDaniel, his sisters, Bonnie Jenkins, Patty (Vinnie) Kame and Ruth (Mike) Harrington, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
