Hornell
Philip O. “Phil” Harvey Sr. passed away Saturday (May 13, 2023) at his son’s home in Rosamond, CA. at the age of 90 after a brief illness. His son, Phil Jr. and daughter-in-law Ellie were at his side.
Born in Hornell, May 22, 1932, he was the daughter of Philip and Edna M. Emery Harvey. He was a lifelong Hornell area resident and was a graduate of Arkport Central School, Class of 1950. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1952-1956,
Phil had been employed as a meat cutter at the former Ritchmeyers Market in Hornell and later at Wegman’s in Hornell. In retirement, he worked part-time for several years at Grizzly’s Custom Cutting, primarily during deer season.
Phil enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening, and was a member of the “Bowling Hall Of Fame”. He was a member of the Arkport American Legion Post for over 40 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Phyllis Vasquez and his brothers, Bruce and Joseph Harvey.
Surviving are his wife Ruth Harvey of Hornell, as well as his son Philip Harvey Jr. and his wife, Ellie of Rosamond, CA plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (June 2, 2023) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell at 11 AM where funeral services will follow calling hours at 1 PM. Deacon Robert McCormick will officiate. Burial will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport,
