 E. Lloyd Prentice

SCOTTSVILLE, NY

Lloyd Prentice went to be with Jesus on August 16, 2023 at age 90, with his precious wife Caroline at his side.

Lloyd was born on January 1, 1933, to Elmer L. Prentice, Sr. and Marion VanOrman Prentice. He and his younger sisters Rebecca and Mary were raised in a very loving Christian home.

Lloyd accepted Jesus as his Savior in an evangelistic service as a young teen and was active for the Lord and church for the rest of his life. He came to a sanctification experience in his late teens at Chambers Camp. This camp has been a very special place for his whole family every summer for many years.

Lloyd was introduced to his loving wife Caroline by her Aunt Fern. They married on August 15, 1959, and celebrated their 64th anniversary together the day before his Homegoing. They have been blessed with three children, ten grandchildren, and their fifteenth great grandchild was born 5 days before Lloyd's homegoing.

Lloyd has been a life-long learner and loved to teach. He graduated from Cincinnatus Central school, and earned his BS at Houghton College and the U of R. He taught high school math and science for several years, but especially loved explaining how things work to his children and grandchildren, and anyone who was interested. He developed a passion for computers (Macs only!) which he enjoyed using daily.

Lloyd was known for his loving spirit.   As his granddaughter Hannah wrote:  "My grandpa was the definition of the word gentle, ever quick to say the phrase, “be nice, be sweet, don’t fight.” He was the epitome of kindness and patience, always available with a listening ear and an inviting smile. My grandpa set the standard for what fatherhood should look like, showing his affection and unconditional love so readily to all who would accept it. He was a wealth of knowledge accumulated from a life well lived, passionately learning all he could about whatever was in front of him. My grandpa was a good steward, a faithful giver to causes he believed in, and a quiet cheerleader for the people he cared deeply about. Elmer Lloyd Prentice was an amazing person who I deeply loved and who will be greatly missed.

But now, Grandpa is with Jesus. He’s walking the streets of gold, reuniting with loved ones who have gone before him. Surely Grandpa of all people was welcomed home with the words, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Master.'   Grandpa was never wavering in his love for grandma, never wavering in his love for us, and never wavering in his love for Jesus."

They were members of the Gates Wesleyan Church for many years and have been members of the Avon Wesleyan Church since 2000.  Lloyd has served on the church board, as a trustee, a Sunday School superintendent, and he was passionate about world missions and very active on the missions committee.

In his varied career, Lloyd taught school, and did technical writing and editing for several companies, including one in Germany. He and Caroline owned and operated a printing business in downtown Rochester for many years. He was creative and loved to invent things to use around the house.  After retiring, they sold their home, bought an RV and toured the entire continental US for a year. They also made trips to Europe and Lloyd served on a missions trip to Guatemala.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Caroline, and their children, Cindy (and Kevin) Austin currently living in the Czech Republic, Andy (and Heidi) of Linwood, NY, and Doug of Fletcher, NC.  Cindy and Kevin's children are Kyle (and Jessica), Caleb (deceased), Craig (deceased), Benjamin (and Allison), Brianna (and Joe), Josiah (and Olivia).  Andy and Heidi's children are Jeremiah (and Mary Catherine), Hannah (and Justin), Luke (and Ashley), and Naomi (and Ian). The number of great grandchildren is currently at 15!

He is also survived by his sisters Rebecca Willis and Mary (and Sandford) Sinesi and their children and a family of inlaws that will miss him greatly.

The family will have a graveside burial service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 19th, at the Canisteo cemetery.

Lloyd's life will be celebrated at the Avon Wesleyan Church (300 Genesee St, Avon, NY) at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023. There will be a calling hour at 1:00 pm, and a time of refreshments and reminiscing afterward.
