Vera G. Page, 92 formerly of East Avenue, passed away Thursday (Aug. 24, 2023) at the Maple City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Almond, January 31, 1931, she was the daughter of Harold and Mildred Huber Bates. She grew up in Haskinville, later moving to Cohocton. She had been employed at the former Marion Rohr’s in Hornell, and later was a housekeeper for the Schuts and Sweeney Families in Hornell. Vera was known for the many quilts she made for the Veterans in Bath and enjoyed bingo.
She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Norman Avery, her siblings, Delores Taylor, Wanda Skinkle, Richard Bates and Rosemarie Zeh, her infant son, John Harold Avery, and son Leroy Avery,
Surviving are her daughters, Debbie & Matt Foster, Valerie & Rich Kelleher, Penny & Victor Schumacher, Roxanne & Paul VanCaeseele, her sons, Norman & Betty Avery, Spencer Avery, Keith & Stephanie Avery, and sister-in law, Jackie Avery of Cohocton. Also surviving are her siblings, Howard Bates, Vaughn Bates, Monty Bates, Harold Bates, Bonnie Johnson and Joeanne Mayer, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Atlanta Fire Hall on Saturday ( Sept. 2, 2023) at 2 PM. Rev. Dudley Jenkins will officiate.
