Waneta C. O’Dell Hornell, NY
Waneta C. O’Dell, a resident of Seneca Manor Apartments passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2023) surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Jasper March 23, 1939 she was the daughter of Howard and Agnes Krusen Sherman. She was a graduate of Greenwood Central School, Class of 1957 and had resided her entire life in this area.
Waneta was a well known Hornell waitress, serving area families for 44 years at the former Big Elms Restaurant, and the Texas Café in Hornell. She was a member of the Hornell Association, and enjoyed cooking and baking for family holiday get togethers but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Carl O’Dell Jr., her brother, Dale Sherman, her brother-in-law Burdette Hulse.
Surviving are her sons, Calvin (Kellie) O’Dell of Greenwood, Bruce (Melody Boerner) O’Dell of Thacherville, Dennis (Barb Henry) O’Dell of Hornell, her sister, Patsy Hulse of Greenwood and her brother, Paul (Diane) Sherman of Greenwood. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Leah Sherman of Greenwood, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, the Calnan Family of the Arkport area who she considered her ”second family” and all of her good and caring friends at the Seneca Manor Apartments.
Waneta’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Care First Hospice, and Tender Loving Home Care of Canisteo for their loving support and care.
The family will be present to receive friends from 3-6 PM on Friday (Oct. 27, 2023) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell where a funeral service will follow calling hours at 6 PM with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery.
