As I recall, Kay and I shared only one class, a senior year requirement class. Health. It was spring, graduation loomed closer and closer when, near the end of school day we took seats in Health class. No one was serious about it. We were on our way out. One day the teacher had us read aloud our homework. The assignment was an essay. I don't remember the exact topic, but I remember Kay reading about the joys and challenges she faced daily. Challenges the rest of us did not have. Joys we'd yet to know. All I can say is that Kay's early-earned maturity, humility, courage, faith, and selfless love made a life-long-lasting lesson for the rest of us. My admiration for Kay never faded, never will. Deepest condolences to her family at this difficult time, and confidence that they will be buoyed by the lessons she taught them about handling the tough stuff with love and strength and finding the joy in it all. - Nancy Allison Berger, Garrison, NY
