Kay M. Smith, 66 of 39 Webster Street, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 unexpectedly at home. She was born in Hornell on February 6, 1955, the daughter of the late Charles Jr. and Margaret A. (Lorow) Cornish. On October 19, 1974, she married the love of her life; Daniel C. Smith who survives.
Kay was a 1973 graduate of Hornell High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Kay loved spending time with family and friends, If you were not family, she made you feel like you were. She always welcomed everyone with open arms and a smile. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them more than life itself.
Kay is survived, in addition to her husband Dan by Two daughters; Tina M. (Matthew) Mercier and Traci L. (Scott) Overbaugh, eight grandchildren; Zoe A. (Josh) Rogers, Kelsey P. (Dale McMichael) Class, Haley J. (Ryan Henry) Mercier, Carrie A. (Josh Brown) Conner, Zack Smith, Anna T. Mercier, Samantha B. Mercier, and Ehren M. Mercier, six great-grandchildren; Chloe, McKenna, Jaxson, Paisley, Isaac, and Amelia, Two sisters; M. Susan (Ralph) VanDerLinden, and Patricia A. Norton, two brothers; Donald L. (Kathleen) Cornish, and William C. Cornish, a brother-in-law; David (Kathy) Smith as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Robert C. and Thelma Smith, and a brother-in-law, Gary W. Norton.

Family and friends are invited to visiting house on Saturday (May 15, 2021) from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, in Hornell where a memorial service will follow calling hours at 1 PM. Rev. Michael Childs will officiate. All Covid-19 guidelines must be followed at the funeral home.
